Have you ever felt like you were living something right out of a movie scene? That is just how I felt today. I let the puppies out for some exercise and, after watching them for a while, I plopped down in my front yard. It was fairly warm for a mid-February morning and there were no clouds in the sky. As I sat cross legged in the grass, several of the puppies started crawling on my lap. Jessie, the mama dog, was playing chase with a few pups while a couple of others gnawed on a bone they had found earlier. Other than the tractor that chugged down the road, few cars passed by the house. My neighbor, Agnes was hanging her laundry out, and the sheep and goats grazed in our little pasture.
It's not often that I get a moment to enjoy the peace of our bucolic neighborhood. I am often too busy with the chore of making the place run to take in the beauty of it all, but today, thanks to the puppies and their restlessness, I took the time to slow down. Of course, that time was short-lived since I had to get up and chase the puppies that ventured too close to the road, but it was enough for me to realize just how good we have it.
Our little farm, or "Funny Farm" as we like to call it, is just two acres on the corner in Kent's Store, VA. We started out with a few cats and a dog, and now, after four and a half years, we are up to around a hundred animals. We have chickens, turkeys, quail, rabbits, goats, sheep, cats, dogs, and even a snake! My husband and four kids love animals and I don't mind them either. We decided to name our place "Cornercopia" since we have such a variety and we live on the corner!
There are so many things to love about our home, but blessing our friends and neighbors with what we have is what we love most! Many of our neighbors love to visit the animals on our farm. Whether they like to feed the goats, hold the baby bunnies, or gather eggs, there is always something to see or do at Cornercopia. We have become the local petting zoo for young and old alike.
There is a story here every day. I am looking forward to sharing with you all of our ideas and projects! Stay tuned, I promise there is never a dull moment
